‘Pretty Little Liars’ Season Premiere Scoop: A’s New Threat!

The ladies of Pretty Little Liars are finally spill their guts during a therapy session on the June 14 season premiere — but not everyone is feeling the warm-and-fuzzies for the girls’ therapist, Anne Sullivan (Annabeth Gish.) “A does not like me,” Annabeth tells HollywoodLife.com. “A finds me a particular threat to the coherence of the group.”
Anne sits down with Aria (Lucy Hale), Hanna (Ashley Benson), Emily (Shay Mitchell) and Spencer (Troian Bellisario) as a group, as well as individually, to analyze just how much Alison’s death has damaged them.
“It’s a new hook for them, an environment where they really get to express themselves,” Annabeth tells us. “Marlene King impressed upon me that the therapist should be warm so they like her and feel they can open up to her. She’s also quite fashionable, so they relate to her that way.”
Speaking of fashion, Annabeth says the overall style of Pretty Little Liars has been one of her favorite parts about her new gig.
“All the girls, especially Ashley’s character, have great style,” she says. “And the wardrobe — Wendy, the woman who does costumes — is fantastic. I’ve certainly learned about matching crazy nail colors with your [pantyhose], and platform shoes, and ‘fashion before it’s fashion.’”
She’s filmed two of her six episodes already, and can’t wait go back to Rosewood in a few weeks to rejoin the girls:
“There is such a levity to the four girls,” she says. “They’re young, they’re beautiful, they’re charismatic, and each one is very distinctly different. So just to dip into that has been really enlivening.”
Annabeth won’t reveal what gets discussed in the therapy sessions — she follows the code of “what’s shared in the office stays in the office” — but she does leave us with a nice little thought to chew on:
“No one is as simple as they might seem,” she says. “I think there’s always a complex thread that, if you pull it, would unravel.”
