Pretty Little Liars' Ashley Benson: I'll Never Starve Myself

Excerpt from an interview Ashley did with J-14

J-14: We heard a rumor that you're going to be singing in an upcoming episode. Is that true?
Ashley: It is true, but I can't say if it's bad or good...

J-14: On the show, Hanna struggles a lot with body confidence. Was that ever an issue for you?
Ashley: It's gotten to me a little bit, but honestly, I like to eat. I like food, and I'd rather be healthy than starving myself. I think it's really important that girls out there know that what they see isn't all real. Sometimes I see pictures of myself and I'm like, "What?! That doesn't even look like me because I look so thin!" I think it's really important for readers to know that we're not all perfect - we all have flaws - and I think it's good to embrace them and to never harm yourself. I think you have to be comfortable in your own skin and you can't try to be something that you're not.

J-14: It's great that your real-life friendships with the other Liars' is so strong.
Ashley: It's so wonderful. I couldn't ask for a better cast and crew to work with. Shay [Mitchell], Troian [Bellisario], and Lucy [Hale] -- they've become like family to me. It's awesome that we can hang out off-set as well as on, so it just makes the whole experience easier. We work every day and to come to work with people you can call your friends is really a blessing.

‘Pretty Little Liars’ Season Premiere Scoop: A’s New Threat!

The ladies of Pretty Little Liars are finally spill their guts during a therapy session on the June 14 season premiere — but not everyone is feeling the warm-and-fuzzies for the girls’ therapist, Anne Sullivan (Annabeth Gish.) “A does not like me,” Annabeth tells HollywoodLife.com. “A finds me a particular threat to the coherence of the group.”
Anne sits down with Aria (Lucy Hale), Hanna (Ashley Benson), Emily (Shay Mitchell) and Spencer (Troian Bellisario) as a group, as well as individually, to analyze just how much Alison’s death has damaged them.
“It’s a new hook for them, an environment where they really get to express themselves,” Annabeth tells us. “Marlene King impressed upon me that the therapist should be warm so they like her and feel they can open up to her. She’s also quite fashionable, so they relate to her that way.”
Speaking of fashion, Annabeth says the overall style of Pretty Little Liars has been one of her favorite parts about her new gig.
“All the girls, especially Ashley’s character, have great style,” she says. “And the wardrobe — Wendy, the woman who does costumes — is fantastic. I’ve certainly learned about matching crazy nail colors with your [pantyhose], and platform shoes, and ‘fashion before it’s fashion.’”
She’s filmed two of her six episodes already, and can’t wait go back to Rosewood in a few weeks to rejoin the girls:
“There is such a levity to the four girls,” she says. “They’re young, they’re beautiful, they’re charismatic, and each one is very distinctly different. So just to dip into that has been really enlivening.”
Annabeth won’t reveal what gets discussed in the therapy sessions — she follows the code of “what’s shared in the office stays in the office” — but she does leave us with a nice little thought to chew on:
“No one is as simple as they might seem,” she says. “I think there’s always a complex thread that, if you pull it, would unravel.”

Ian Harding: Shirtless for 'Pretty Little Liars' Season Two!

If all teachers looked like Ian Harding, we would definitely have a problem learning anything in school.
In the season two premiere of Pretty Little Liars, “It’s Alive,” with Ian’s (Ryan Merriman) body missing and the entire town of Rosewood questioning what exactly happened the night before at the church, Aria (Lucy Hale), Emily (Shay Mitchell), Hanna (Ashley Benson) and Spencer (Troian Bellisario) have a lot of explaining to do.
But with the police and their parents not quite sure what to believe, the girls’ parents rally together to try and help the four out with the assistance of a therapist (Annabeth Gish).
Now being forced to talk out their problems, Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer feel more alone than ever. Even with a reassurance that everything they discuss won’t leave the therapist’s office, is this the person the Liars can finally tell about “A?” Or is there no place safe from “A’s” watchful eye?

Pretty Little Liars: Alison's Mom Makes Her Debut In S2

Prepare to be rocked, Rosewood.
ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars has cast Less Than Perfect alumna Andrea Parker as dearly (?) departed Alison’s mother, who happens to be nothing like her scheming daughter — at first!
Parker makes her PLL debut in the sixth episode of the cable sudser’s second season (premiering Tuesday, June 14) as Jessica DiLaurentis, Ali’s seemingly sweet mom who returns to Rosewood to oversee a charity fashion show being held in her daughter’s honor. With all four Liars assisting with the festivities, the MIA momma is initially overjoyed to reconnect with Ali’s longtime friends. (Obviously she hasn’t heard that they are now kinda sorta suspects in her murder.)
Of course, nothing — and no one — is as it seems in this treacherous little town, so expect Jessica’s motives to come into question very quickly.
No word yet on just how many episodes of PLL Parker will take part in, but she wascast as a recurring player, so look forward to seeing a healthy dose of the mystery matriarch this summer.
Nice pick, they actually look like they could be mother and daughter!

'Pretty Little Liars'' Lucy Hale: 'Someone else catches Aria's eye'

Attention "Ezria" fans: Prepare yourselves for a new love interest to come in and shake things up for your favorite couple on "Pretty Little Liars."
That's right. A new Rosewood guy will be giving Ezra (Ian Harding) some competition for Aria's (Lucy Hale) heart.
We sat down with Hale at ABC Family's summer press day on May 14, where she revealed Aria will in fact be caught in a love triangle in Season 2: "There's someone else that catches Aria's eye who is more age-appropriate."
"It's very interesting," Hale says of the love triangle. "Because I think it makes her realize how much she really is risking by being with Ezra."
Hale couldn't reveal who the new love interest is -- "I can't say!" -- but teases, "The two guys are completely different, like, couldn't be more opposite." One "PLL" guy who is out of the running? Noel (Brant Daugherty). "Noel is not in the love triangle," she says. "But he is involved in the second season." Cryptic? Yes. But it's "Pretty Little Liars." We expect nothing less.
It seems like whoever this mystery guy is has seriously caught Aria's attention as Hale says, "I don't know which guy she's going to choose." Sounds pretty serious, no?

There's A New Poster For Pretty Little Liars Season 2!

The poster for PLL’s debut season must have done a good job, because a few themes were carried over for the new look. We still have our main players, Hanna (Ashley Benson), Emily (Shay Mitchell), Spencer (Troian Bellisario) and Aria (Lucy Hale); and they’re still covered in dirt, and Aria is even shushing the camera once again, but the wardrobe got over-hauled this time around, with the girls losing the black for a much more innocent looking color, and innocence isn’t exactly what these girls are about.
Another thing brought over from the Season 1 promo is the tagline, “Never trust a pretty girl with an ugly secret,” probably because they hit the nail on the head with this one.
The new season of Pretty Little Liars starts on Tuesday, June 14th at 8 PM ET

With our Hot 100 results posting next Monday, we asked some of our favorite women for their picks. Pretty Little Liars' Shay Mitchell shared her Top 5 with us, and we think she's right on.

1. Paula Patton 2. Amber Heard 3. Eva Mendes 4. Penelope Cruz 5. Mila Kunis
I would say she is a fan of dark haired beauties, except she tossed in Amber and that threw the whole thing off. What do you think of the women Shay picked?

Lucy Hale Covers Seventeen Magazine June 2011 Issue

Check out some excerpts from Lucy Hale Seventeen Magazine interview:
On country music: “I love Lady Antebellum and Miranda Lambert, they write from the heart. But it’s hard to find a country music lover in LA. None of my friends really listen to it, and they hate getting in the car with me because I just blast Taylor Swift.”

On overanalyzing: “I overanalyze things way too much, to the point where it affects my life. Like, when I’m talking to a boy, I’ll overanalyze a text message he sent. And I have to think to myself, Just chill out. Some guy sent me a text message. That’s all. Don’t read something into it that’s not there. Just be glad he sent you a text message!”

On Justin Bieber: “I loved the Justin Bieber movie! His whole story is fascinating to me. Beforehand, I didn’t understand how he got so huge so fast. I knew he was talented, and obviously he’s adorable. But after seeing the movie, I was crying and singing his songs. You couldn’t walk away from that movie without falling in love with him.”

Pretty Little Liars' Shay Mitchell Talks Beauty

What is your daily beauty regimen?
Shay: My daily beauty regimen is definitely always in the mornings, and at night, always washing my face with a basic cleanser. I also use a moisturizer with SPF to follow up. Due to the fact that I'm on set working and get a lot of makeup put on all the time, the days that I'm not working I try not to put on any makeup so I can let my skin breathe.
What do you do to your hair to make it so gorgeous?
Shay: I've been fortunate to be on a set where they have a lot of products given to them, so most recently I've been getting a lot of Kerastase hair products. I've been using that, and I've also been using hair masks. I really like to use natural things, so I just ordered a bunch of product from this company called Earth to Body. It's all organic, handmade skincare. I'm using their apple cider hairwash too, which I really like. If I can ever go online and look up recipes for hair masks, do-it-yourself masks, I'll always do that first. If there's something I can use that's already in my kitchen, that works.
What is your fitness regimen?
Shay: I really like to try out anything and everything. With fitness, I do Bikrams hot yoga. The gym that I have in my building is amazing. I love to do cardio and weights there. That's probably what I go to most, especially when I'm working. I work out either before shooting or after with treadmill, elliptical or weights. There's a bunch of different classes and fun things to do in L.A as far as fitness goes.
Did you always want to get into acting?
Shay: When I was younger, I was modeling. I was in the modeling industry, and I always took acting class. I never had an agent, but I was always taking classes. I knew what I wanted to do was going to be in the entertainment industry. I just felt comfortable, whether it was making people laugh or taking photos for clients with an idea and being able to do that for them. I've known that I wanted to do this for a long time. Of course getting older, acting was a much more suitable career than modeling was.
Since you were in the modeling industry, what is your opinion of society's "tall and skinny" stigma?
Shay: Yeah. I wasn't really for that. The other thing was like, we're being bombarded with 2,000 images a day from everything from billboards to magazines to just everything. With those photos, and I know from doing it, everything's Photoshopped. It's the lighting and fake eyelashes going on even when you're doing a natural beauty shoot. It makes me feel bad because there are a lot of young girls who look up and say "I wanna look like this girl in this magazine," but if you see that girl in the morning, she's beautiful, but no one really looks like that. There is a lot of Photoshop that goes into it. I did like modeling because it gave me the experience that I have and allowed me to travel and it is good.
I just feel like there should be more advertisements like the Dove campaign. When they showed that women who had gone through all of that Photoshop to end up from A to B. I LOVE that. I think that there needs to be more of that. I do feel like there needs to be more natural girls who aren't so slim. I saw something recently on Jessica Simpson, and she did a cover of a magazine and she was all natural, I think that's great. I really like that. If you're not in this industry, you don't know what goes on. I always tell this story, because it's so funny. Even when you see people from our show, when you see a morning scene, or you're supposed to be going to bed, there is still makeup on, and we have professional lighting guys who are amazing. We have makeup artists that are touching us up. I wish I could look like that in the morning, but you don't. We all have to find beauty within us, as opposed to just our exterior.
In your opinion, what makes someone beautiful?
Shay: The way a woman carries herself. Whether it be posture -- I feel like it gives you a confident look. And having a smile on top of that. There's nothing more beautiful than that. I have some actresses that I find beautiful because you just can't find a picture of them not smiling.
